Gettysburg Reenactment Draws Large Crowds
The annual reenactment of the Battle of Gettysburg (July 2-4) drew crowds of 50,000 to 100,000 - not counting the 5,000 reenactors who participated in the actual battle. "I've been doing this for over thirty years," said Brian Melby of Port Washington, Vermont, "and this is by far the largest gathering I've been at." Melby credits a string of recent Civil War movies for increased interest. "People are fascinated by the period." agrees Dorothy Sawyer, "I was peppered with questions all weekend."
